Diode laser therapy
The laser epilation is a modern and durable method for coping with the problem with the unwanted hair growth which saves a lot of time and efforts that are applied with the old methods of epilation. The durable elimination of the hairs can be reached only through destruction of the hair follicle. The most effective method in this respect is the laser epilation. The effect of the laser is based on the theory of selective themolysis. Its main principle consists of the selective absorption of light energy by the melanin, contained in the stem and bulbs of the hair, which leads to thermal destruction of the hair follicle.
The procedure, however, affects only the hairs which are in active phase of growth.
1/ anagen phase of active growth of the hair stem;
2/ telogen - phase of regression and
3/ catagen - phase of repose. The stem is missing and the hair follicle represents a glued sack of cells.
The length of the laser is a key factor, having an impact over the effectiveness of the manipulation. Different epilation systems exist: laser-ruby (with length of the wave 694 nm), alexandrite (755 nm), diode (808 nm) and the IPL systems. The radiations of the ruby and alexandrite laser are absorbed better than the melanin, which is accompanied not only by a reaction on the part of the hairs but also on the part the cuticle. This is expressed by disturbance of the skin pigmentation in the treatment zone. The impact of the IPL systems, representing powerful lamps lightings is less selective. This increases the probability from thermal damages of the skin. The radiation of the Nd-Yag lasers, which is with very big length of the wave is absorbed weakly by the melanin and that is why this type of laser systems do not lead to effective long-term elimination of the hairs.
The clinical researches show that the use of the diode lasers is associated with great efficacy and with no post-operative side effects. The longer length of the diode laser wave allows deeper penetration and theoretically appears safer than the laser systems with shorter wave length. At the clinic Legrano® we chose to work with last generation of diode laser apparatuses. In contract to other diode lasers, they work on the principle of a “long impulse”. The long impulse does not have unpleasant smell of burnt hair, perifollicular swelling, nor unwanted reaction of the skin. The diode lasers with length of the wave of 808 nm are the right balance for elimination of the unwanted hairs with patients of every type of skin.
